If you will pardon me for a moment, I figured I at least had to forge some response in regard to the announcement that CBS’s relationship with Billy Packer is finally over after 27 years (Billy was fired amidst the latest contraversy involving comments made by the proverbial color man in the ‘08 Final Four) - despite this news having nothing to do with football.
I’m guessing if many of you are in any way like me or Matt, then you annually complete at least one sheet of integrity when March comes around each year. And also like us, you probably get sick of hearing Billy Packer ultimately contradicting his own commentary during men’s basketball games each year.
It was announced today Clark Kellogg (alum from The Ohio State University) will be taking over the color commentary reigns from Packer during the 2009 NCAA Final Four and will sit aside the ever-popular Jimbo Nantz (sarcasm inserted). Kellogg should do fine. Nantz however seems to get worse and worse. I still haven’t decided which is worse overall though, his golf or his basketball announcing skills.
According to ESPN.com, apparently Billy is packing (pun intended) his bags to pursue “other projects in basketball.” Like what, Billy? Watching the 2009 Final Four on TV??!?!? I mean seriously, you gonna shift gears and go do color on the massively ‘popular’ women’s final four on ESPN? I really can’t even type that without laughing.
Oh well, I’m sure Billy will find someone to annoy somewhere. You don’t have to send him your condolences. I’m sure he’ll be just fine. Within days it will probably be announced he’s joined the ESPN studio crew and will sit right beside Bobby Knight (can you imagine?).
